Human nose body – A human nose is strucutred of bones, cartilage, and fibro fatty tissues. Sustaining structure of the upper part of nose consists of bones. The upmost portion near the eye sockets made up of two nasal bones, which is connected to the frontal bone of the forehead. Those nasal bones are joined to form the nose stem. On both sides, they are linked with a process of the maxilla by a hard fibrous membrane. At the base, nasal bones are linked with septal and lateral nasal cartilage. The lower part of the nose consists of cartilages. Those cartilages give shape to the external property of the nose.
The nasal bone can be touched in between the eyelids for the cartilage spreads from the nose tip to the middle portion. To the nasal septum, the nose bridge goes on with the septal cartilage to form the septum. The nasal septum borders the nostrils and continues with the nasal cavity. Again, there are three horizontal prominent of bones, namely turbinate or conchae that separate the nasal cavity into three dent-like air passages.
The latter of human nose body is the three turbinates are called as inferior, middle and superior turbinates, seeingfrom their position and functions. They are playing a role for maintaining the temperature, moist (up to 98% saturated water), and filtration of the air when travels the nasal cavity. On one side of the septal cartilage, there is the lateral nasal cartilage. Just beneath the lateral nasal cartilages, the bigger alar cartilage lies, which is a thin, flexible plate that shapes the medial and lateral wall of the nostril. In addition to bigger alar cartilages, there lies three or four small cartilagesnamed lesser alar cartilages. Both the bigger and lesser alar cartilages perform the overall form of the nostrils.
Hair lies inside the nostrils, which is important in filtration and humidification of atmospheric air as it goes through them. Indirectly, nose hair plays a role as a defense mechanism against the dangerous pathogens and solid particulate matter in the air. Both the nostrils and nasal cavity are lined by mucous membrane and cilia. The membrane releases a sticky substance namely mucus. By all means, this mucus and cilia filter the air and impede entry of any foreign particles such as dust,microorganisms, and particulate matter inside the respiratory system. The mucus also helps in humidifying the air. Below the mucous membrane, there are blood capillaries that help in warming the air so that it matches the body temperature.
